This is a beautifully constructed period George III settee bench. The frame is hand carved Santo Domingo Mahogany which was commonly used in the Eastern Colonies and the new American Republic at the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th Century. The cabriolet legs are adorned with heavily carved acanthus leaves. The rear is supported by square sabre legs. Both arms are also hand carved with acanthus leaves and cabochons terminating in scrolled knuckles. The upholstery is clean and in like new condition. The item shows in good condition and shows very well. It is a classic design that was established throughout the colonies of the day. This item appears likely to have been carved in Boston. This is a fantastic piece of American history.
